It's not wrong to ask for help, and in many cases forums have people just like you that need answers. You don't have to be a member to search for answers, but many forums ask that you become a member so in this case get yourself a free email account and sign up.
Your Forum Signature
You can edit your forum signature usually in the top left, anytime you post to the forum a link will appear at the bottom with your url. Now it's a 50/50 crapshoot if the forum is a do follow or not but either way I recommend you do this. If it is a dofollow forum your keyword phrase will rank higher in search engines. It is NOT a waste of time to add your url there.
You Don't Have To List In All Forums
This has become a debate battle over the years, many SEO firms offer programs that will list your url in thousands of forum signatures BUT without you posting it is in my opinion a waste of time. Though they might ping it once and Google sees it, after a while without you posting the link fades away. I've tried it and don't see any value in it.
